KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Event Updates

Full steam ahead with 2020 KubeCon + CloudNativeCon events!

Novel Coronavirus Update: The Linux Foundation is continuously monitoring the Novel Coronavirus situation to ensure the safety of our event participants and staff. We will be following all recommended guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) as the situation progresses.

Despite the cancellation of MWC Barcelona, many other significant conferences are still occurring and we have no plans to cancel KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe.

KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe
The schedule is live! Check out the great sessions assembled for you by co-chairs Vicki Cheung and Constance Caramanolis and the entire program committee!

CNCF is hosting four co-located Day Zero events (other organizations are running 15 others). Check them out and add them to your registration!

Cloud Native Security Day: The CNCF SIG-Security has organized Cloud Native Security Day for you – the community! Join, discuss, and share current challenges and solutions in cloud native security. This event provides a single place for people involved or getting involved in cloud native security to get together in a vendor neutral space.

ServiceMeshCon: ServiceMeshCon is a vendor-neutral conference on service mesh technologies, featuring maintainers across different service mesh projects and also showcasing the lessons learned from running service meshes in production.

Serverless Practitioners Summit: Where the serverless community and present end users unite with comprehensive strategies to understand serverless in a cloud native context.

Kubernetes Contributor Summit: The Kubernetes Contributor Summit brings together new and current Kubernetes contributors alike to connect and share face-to-face. The Amsterdam event is shaping up to focus on strengthening our contributor base in other regions outside of the US, and adding in some activities for our current contributors to get hallway conversations in with their distributed peers. Watch the Kubernetes blog or Twitter for the schedule announcement.

Register, add a co-located event, and check out the event experiences!

Congratulations to the new TOC members!

CNCF has three main bodies: a Governing Board (GB) that is responsible for marketing, budget and other business oversight decisions for CNCF, a Technical Oversight Committee (TOC) that is responsible for defining and maintaining the technical vision, and an End User Community (EUC) that is responsible for providing feedback from companies and startups to help improve the overall experience for the cloud native ecosystem.

The TOC has 11 members. 6 are appointed from the GB, 2 from the End User Community, 1 from non-sandbox project maintainers, and 2 from the other members of the TOC.

Elections took place in January 2020. Please help us in welcoming the newest members of the CNCF TOC: Katie Gamanji, Saad Ali, Sheng Liang, and Justin Cormack! They join Liz Rice, Brendan Burns, Brian Grant, Jeff Brewer, Matt Klein, Michelle Noorali, and Xiang Li.

A huge thank you to Alexis Richardson and Joe Beda for their time and work on the TOC!

containerd Project Journey Report

The containerd project journey report is out!

containerd is a container runtime with an emphasis on simplicity, robustness, and portability. The project was accepted into CNCF in March 2017. containerd’s scope includes both providing core container runtime functionality as a CRI implementation for Kubernetes, as well as container runtime capabilities to the Docker engine. Its widest usage and adoption occurs as the layer between the Docker engine and the Kubernetes OCI executer.

This report attempts to objectively assess the state of the containerd project and how CNCF has impacted the progress and growth of containerd.
