Well-Being Working Group Update

Mark Coleman

Well-Being Working Group,

Firstly, thanks for your patience in waiting for an update on our plans for KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Amsterdam.

As some of you already know, the working group decided to explore running a Day 0 event in Amsterdam. In order to test the feasibility of the idea we decided to spend a week testing whether we could attract:

  1. Community influencers to promote the event
  2. Potential speakers for the event
  3. Provisional sponsorship agreements

Despite reaching roughly 25% of the budget in such a short time, we weren’t able to attract any potential speakers or influencers. It’s worth mentioning that these results are largely because we’re all busy and weren’t able to put in the time to make this happen, not because the idea was unpopular.

It is because of that lack of available time among working group members (which some of your voiced in the slack channel) that I’m recommending we postpone the day zero event until KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Boston.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time and of course, I don’t have final say here, so if you have questions or comments, please let me know.

So what is going to happen at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Amsterdam?

The current best overview of our plans can be found in the January 7th meeting minutes, although they are still in note form. I spoke with Vanessa from the CNCF events team last week and we agreed that they will come back with a plan in the week of the 27th of January. We can then provide feedback as a group.

Lastly…

1. I'll be in touch to schedule our next call next week.

2. Relatively few of you are in the working group’s slack channel on the CNCF Slack (#well-beingwg). You can join yourselves, or send me your username via email (mrmrcoleman@...or DM and I'll invite you.

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks for all the hard work on this Mark and team.

I do agree trying to make a Day 0 event happen in AMS would have been a challenge at this point, both logistically and financially.

Does it make sense for us to have a kick-off planning meeting while we’re at KubeCon EU? We don’t have a chance to meet face-to-face very often. 😊

Cisco has a private meeting room for the run of the show…I could book time in our room so we could discuss options for Boston.

Mark,

If you can lead the effort to identify the best day and time for us to get together while we’re in AMS, I’ll book time in the Cisco meeting room.

Our meeting room tends to be busy at KubeCon, so 2-3 options would be ideal.

Thanks!
