Re: Proposal - the future of Sandbox

Matt Farina

While the proposal has some nuance in the details to work out, I like to the overall tone and direction. Nicely done TOC.

I think this will really help with those early stage and experimental projects the sandbox is listed as being for.

Matt Farina

Dear all,

I am aware that this is not the best mailing list for this discussion,
but I am not aware of a better one. Please feel free to redirect me,
and this discussion.

Currently the "CNCF Public Events" calendar is in PT. As summer/winter
times move at different dates for US/EMEA, not at all for much of APAC
and in the other direction for Australia, this is even more painful
than "normal" daylight savings sheeningangs.

As such, I would like to propose that the calendar is migrated from PT
to UTC which does not have DST.

Best,
Richard

KubeEdge 2020 Annual Review

Kevin Wang

Hello Everyone,

KubeEdge is an open source system for extending native containerized application orchestration capabilities to hosts at Edge.
It's built upon kubernetes and provides fundamental infrastructure support for network, application deployment and metadata synchronization between cloud and edge.

KubeEdge was accepted by CNCF as a Sandbox project in Mar 2019, and has made significant improvements to both project and community.
Details for annual review is here: https://github.com/cncf/toc/pull/440

Please let us know if you have any comments or questions, thanks.

Best,
Kevin Wang

Keptn (Sandbox Proposal) looking for TOC sponsors

Reitbauer, Alois

Hello,

The Keptn project (www.keptn.sh) is looking for TOC sponsors to enter Sandbox stage. Keptn is a control plane to enable multi-stage delivery automation with quality gates as well as declarative operations automation. Keptn itself is fully declarative and acts as a choreography layer for CNCF projects like:

  • Kubernetes (multi-stage delivery creation and orchestration)
  • Prometheus (automatic configuration)
  • Argo ( trigger Argo delivery based on quality gates)
  • Helm (automatically manage and update Helm charts for multi-stage delivery)
  • Envoy (currently via Istio – for traffic routing and configuration)

The Keptn control plane can easily be extended via custom (Kubernetes) services. Examples include:

  • Slack
  • Microsoft Team
  • Argo
  • Prometheus
  • Atlassian Jira
  • Neoload
  • Jenkins
  • Unleash
  • ….

Keptn also comes with a specification of tool-independent lifecycle events (https://github.com/keptn/spec) that are also part of the CDF Interoperability work.

Core concepts behind Keptn are explained in these two blog posts:

Ambassador API Gateway proposal for CNCF Incubation

Daniel Bryant

Hi all,

We'd like to donate the Ambassador API Gateway project to the CNCF at the incubation level.  Ambassador is an Envoy-based Kubernetes ingress controller and API Gateway.

Over the past few years, Ambassador has been deployed in many production environments including AppDirect, Ticketmaster, Lifion by ADP, OneFootball, and Chick-Fil-A.

Matt Klein has agreed to be the sponsor for the project. Please see more details about our proposal here:

https://github.com/cncf/toc/pull/435

Best wishes,
