Kubernetes Beta Exam Questions

Clyde

We've gotten a few questions about accessing resources during the exam so I though I'd provide a little more clarification. Candidates are only allowed to have one application (Chrome or Chromium) running during the exam. For reference resources, they are allowed to open a second browser tab and use technical documentation and also to search for such (e.g. using Google).

For obvious reasons, the resources must be non exam-specific. Assets such as personal study notes and premade templates are not allowed as they would provide an unfair advantage. Candidates are expected to demonstrate integrity and good judgment. The goal is to ensure that a candidate can demonstrate the skills in real world conditions while also protecting the integrity of the exam and the CKA credential.

Clyde

Hi Anish,

Pre-made templates prepared especially for the exam would not be allowed,
as they would be considered exam-specific and are not considered
documentation. (As per the Candidate Handbook
<https://www.cncf.io/certification/candidate-handbook/>, candidates may
only access "relevant technical (non exam-specific) documentation".)

Hi Team,

Is there Access to google.com and kubernete.io during the exam ?
Is it fine if I download premade yaml config templates from my github
account to aid me during the exam ?

Interesting. That might be good feedback needed for the exam provider. I had up to 4 open - but all kubernetes.io documentation and wasn't told anything about it. I did avoid Google and Github, because I thought the doc site was all that was allowed.

Folks have identified an area where we need to add clearer instructions.

Specifically, we're going to say that it's fine to open other tabs and to do web searches. Searching documentation or error message text is OK. However, searching for 'CKA exam answers' would be cause for disqualification. That's what we mean by not exam-specific.

My apologies for the confusion, which we can hopefully fix immediately with updated instructions.

Further point of clarification on use of assets (including templates). Candidates are allowed to browse for and use technical documentation, including downloading and installing templates and other technical assets.

What's not allowed are exam-specific assets, meaning those created by (or with the assistance of) those with prior exposure to the exam content and for the purpose of providing specific assistance to a candidate taking the CKA exam.

The goal is to provide a real world experience and candidates should not be apprehensive about using assets that they'd normally use in the course of doing their job. If use of a particular asset is flagged by the review process the candidate will have an opportunity to respond to any proposed sanction. As with any skills evaluation, please just use good judgment while taking the exam. We'll update the documentation accordingly.

Please continue to provide feedback on how we can improve the exam, this Beta phase is critical to producing a finished product. Appreciate everyone's patience as we work through these details as well as some of the technical glitches.

Regards
Clyde

We've gotten a few questions about accessing resources during the exam so I though I'd provide a little more clarification.

Hi Anish,

Pre-made templates prepared especially for the exam would not be allowed,
as they would be considered exam-specific and are not considered
documentation. (As per the Candidate Handbook
<https://www.cncf.io/certification/candidate-handbook/>, candidates may
only access "relevant technical (non exam-specific) documentation".)

thanks, Janet

Hi Team,

Is there Access to google.com and kubernete.io during the exam ?
Is it fine if I download premade yaml config templates from my github
account to aid me during the exam ?

Yes, that material would be fine. Any material that is not specific to the exam is OK.
