CKA Exam Candidate handbook and Important Tips

Arush Sal <arush.sal@...>

Hi Team,

I have registered and scheduled the CKA exam, but it seems that some of the links from the "Exam Preparation Checklist" still haven't been updated.

Especially the "Get Candidate Handbook" and the "Important Tips" link is pointing to just a dummy "Coming Soon" page.
Could you please help us out and provide the updated link/material related to the same?

Regards,
Arush Salil

Kubernetes Beta Exam Questions

Viswanathan, Anish <av7573@...>

Hi Team,

Is there Access to google.com and kubernete.io during the exam ?

Is it fine if I download premade yaml config templates from my github account to aid me during the exam ?

Thank you and Best Regards,

Re: cka exam, webcam required ?

Will do. There have also been a few questions about having to go to Pearson to take it - that is not the case, the exam is entirely delivered via the web so you take it from your own computer (hence the need for a webcam). Will clarify that as well.

Call for Action: One month to become a Founding Kubernetes Certified Service Provider

Dan Kohn <dan@...>

[Sorry, I forgot to send to the most important list, but you hopefully saw this yesterday. - Dan]

In early September, CNCF will be announcing the founding class of Kubernetes Certified Service Providers (KCSPs). If your company provides professional services to support Kubernetes deployments, please consider signing up to become part of the founding class.

The main benefits of becoming a KCSP are:
* Placement in a new section at the top of https://kubernetes.io/partners/
* Monthly private meetings with cloud native project leaders, TOC members, and representatives from the CNCF Governing Board
* Access to leads from end users looking for support

Requirements are:
* Three or more engineers who pass the Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) exam
* Demonstrable activity in the Kubernetes community including active contribution
* A business model to support enterprise end users, including putting engineers at a customer site

The CKA exam is about to enter early release beta testing prior to the public release in September. It is an online, proctored, performance-based test that requires solving multiple issues from a command line. It takes 3 to 4 hours to complete, and costs $300, though a discount is available for beta testers to $100.

If your company is interested in becoming a KCSP, please do the following 4 things:

1. Ensure that your company is listed at https://kubernetes.io/partners/ and if not (or if the listing should be updated), please do so via the link at the top of that page.

2. Have 3 or more of your Kubernetes experts sign up for the beta test at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd9-6nL5L3SzWIddCSPoKeuX_Pdq_KHI8C4mQzcUryP-gu0dQ/viewform . Please have them use their company email so we can properly associate them. Within a week, we will send beta test dates, a discount coupon code, and instructions to register and schedule.

4. If you are not already on it, and want to track progress of the certification program over time, please subscribe to the Kubernetes Certification Working Group list: https://lists.cncf.io/mailman/listinfo/cncf-kubernetescertwg

Questions or issues? Please email cncf-kcsp-support@....io .

K8s Certification Update - July 23, 2017

Hello Kubernetes Certification Working Group!

Development work on the Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) exam is almost complete. Alpha testing provided excellent feedback and incorporating appropriate revisions per the feedback has delayed the beta test a little.

Timeline
* June/July: Alpha iterative testing and exam environment development (completed, revisions being incorporated now)
* Early August:  Beta-1 testing with group of ~15 Kubernetes subject matter experts (this team has already been identified);
* Mid-August-September: Beta-2 soft launch to Beta Tester Sign-up of 300+ names.
* Late August: Standard Setting committee sessions to determine exam passing score
* September 11: public launch at OSS North America Summit

Sign-up
* Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) Beta Tester Sign-up: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd9-6nL5L3SzWIddCSPoKeuX_Pdq_KHI8C4mQzcUryP-gu0dQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

   * Project announcements are made via this work group list

Candidate Access to the exam
* During soft launch, a private link will direct KMSP candidates to the purchase page
* At public launch, the certification page will be linked via a “Training and Cert” tab in the cncf.io navigation bar; KMSPs shown on top of k8s.io partner page

Training
CNCF has worked with The Linux Foundation training team to develop self-paced online courses that can scale up the reach beyond what’s possible using instructor-led courses.

Dual-track program in place to help ensure that there’s adequately trained K8s talent
* Created a free Introduction to Kubernetes course on edX
   * https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-kubernetes-linuxfoundationx-lfs158x
   * Launched July 10th, 4,000 registrations in the first 10 days
* Launched LFS258: Kubernetes Fundamentals course, serves as prep for the CKA exam
   * content has been newly updated to align to the requirements of the CKA exam

Excuse me for disturbing you again and asking about the beta testing and general availability of the CKA exam but it's quite important for us! Is it still realistic that the CKA beta testing happens in July and general availability in August?

There are 2 important reasons to be interested in the schedule:

  1. We are a gold sponsor of the Openstack UK Day 2017 in London on 26. September (https://openstackdays.uk/2017/?page_id=781) and our sponsor talk will be about available open cloud certifications (Openstack, Docker, Kubernetes, maybe also Openshift and Cloud Foundry), their features and ways of preparation.
  2. We'd like to heavily market a bundle of our Kubernetes Admin training (https://www.componentsoft.eu/?p=3889) and the CKA exam in Europe from September.

     * Evacuation Kubernetes
* Working on a proposed a solution to handle CKA candidates switching
kubernetes contexts required to complete different exam items

Beta testing
* Now targeted for June (exact dates TBD)
* We are still looking for volunteers to help with beta testing the exams.
If you have interest and K8s expertise please subscribe to this Kubernetes
Certification Working Group list:

Hi Liz,

Excuse me for disturbing you again and asking about the beta testing and
general availability of the CKA exam but it's quite important for us! Is
it still realistic that the CKA beta testing happens in July and general
availability in August?

There are 2 important reasons to be interested in the schedule:

 1. We are a gold sponsor of the Openstack UK Day 2017 in London on 26.
    September (https://openstackdays.uk/2017/?page_id=781) and our
sponsor talk will be about available open cloud certifications
(Openstack, Docker, Kubernetes, maybe also Openshift and Cloud
Foundry), their features and ways of preparation.
 2. We'd like to heavily market a bundle of our Kubernetes Admin
training (https://www.componentsoft.eu/?p=3889) and the CKA exam in
    Europe from September.

Hi Erno,

As of now, the certification exam is in alpha testing. Beta testing is targeted for late June and July. The?Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) ?Beta Tester Sign-up?sheet?can still be used for those interested in beta testing.?

Hi all,

As Liz Kline haven't reply to my email in the past 2 days, is there anybody else knowing the actual time frame of the CKA exam beta testing and its planned release date?

We've just finished the development of the first version of our own Kubernetes training and would like to align its content with the upcoming CKA exam as well as offering a training + exam bundle. Hence we should know about the final content and release date of the CKA exam before starting to promote the bundle to a wider (European) customer base.

Thanks for your help in advance,

Hi Liz (Kline),

With regard to your below schedule about the CKA exam I'd like to ask
you about the (hopefully) final time frame of the beta exam phase. Is it
still planned for June?

Thanks,
