Re: Kubernetes Beta Exam Questions

Interesting. That might be good feedback needed for the exam provider. I had up to 4 open - but all kubernetes.io documentation and wasn't told anything about it. I did avoid Google and Github, because I thought the doc site was all that was allowed.

Re: [linuxfoundation.org #44630] Kubernetes Beta Exam Questions

Sam Tresler

According to the proctor I had during my exam kubernetes.io was fine to have open in another tab. I made a point of closing github or anything off that site when it was linked to and I didn't realize it, but I don't know that it was necessary. I also did not use Google. I stuck with the search box on kubernetes.io.

I don't know if that was definitely the intent, but that is what I understood from the handbook. Some clarification would be great. Ability to use Google would have definitely made a difference for me, but that's not my experience in most exam settings, and I wanted to try to stick to what I thought the rules were.

Re: CKA Exam Candidate handbook and Important Tips

Someone reached out to me off list and pointed out there are two different sites. One for taking the exam, which was linked to in your registration email and one with the training materials here:  https://training.linuxfoundation.org/portal

I was mixing the two up, since they both have some of the same information.

When I first signed up for the exam, the portal just showed a green checkmark next to the compatability test bullet in a list, it didn't have the nice chart with all this on it. I went back to check based on the webcam thread and realized this.

The only think on that list I'm missing for my 2pm EDT exam is that my display resolution is 1366 x 768 and I'm seeing now "Minimum 1280 x 800 resolution".

Is this going to be sufficient to take the exam this afternoon?

Thank you.

Hello Kubernetes Certification Working Group!

The CKA Beta is ongoing thru 8/31 and this note summarizes some of the
important details of the program. We have notified ALL usable email
addresses signed up to the CKA Beta Signup list. If you signed up to beta
test, but did not receive an email invitation with the Subject: ?CKA Beta
is Ready!? please contact us via this Kubernetes Certification Working
Group list with Subject: CKA Beta Request.

We?ll be choosing beta testers to highlight during our public launch in
mid-September. Be sure to take the test as soon as possible and no later
than 8/31 to be considered for a spotlight.

ABOUT THE CKA EXAM

Exam Details
* You can take the beta certification exam from any qualifying computer,
anywhere there is internet, almost any time. No need to go to a test
center. (see Hardware Compatibility Check below)
* The online exam consists of a set of 31 performance-based items
(problems) to be solved in a command line.
* The exam is expected to take 3-4 hours to complete.

Technical Instructions
* Before taking the CKA Beta exam, please review exam-specific technical
instructions, attached to this email: cka_exam.1.1.0.1
* The current CKA beta is being deployed using a modified Canonical
Distribution of Kubernetes.
* Hints will be provided to guide the beta tester through certain aspects
of the exam, where CDK may differ from a vanilla-K8s deployment.
* The clusters which comprise the exam environment are currently running
v1.6.2 of K8s components. We?ll skip v1.7 and move to v1.8 in November 2017.

Hardware Compatibility Check
* Candidates should run the compatibility check tool provided by the Exam
Proctoring Partner to verify that their hardware meets the minimum
requirements.
* The tool is located at
https://www.examslocal.com/ScheduleExam/Home/CompatibilityCheck. Select
?Linux Foundation? as the Exam Sponsor and ?CKA? as the Exam.
* At this time, only Chrome and Chromium browsers are supported and
candidates need a functioning webcam so that the proctor can see them.

Rules during exam
* Candidates may browse the web for relevant technical (non exam-specific)
documentation, e.g., https://kubernetes.io/docs/reference/.
* Candidates may use the Notepad feature accessible in the top menu bar of
the exam console (notes entered here will not be retained or accessible
after the exam has ended)

Exam Results
* The beta process is being used to determine the passing score
* Please disregard the ?No Pass? email notice you will receive after
completing the beta
* Once the actual passing score is set, will receive your finalized score
and Pass/No Pass status, no later than Sept 1. 2017.

Re: CKA Exam Candidate handbook and Important Tips

Sam Tresler

It looks like somehow the layout has changed since I signed up. I previously had the Handbook and Important Tips links and now I do not. I have a link on the left under "Pending Exams" that says "more details" That doesn't seem to do anything or go anywhere.

I will try a different browser.
