Web pages during the exam

Agoton DEIM

hello,

I've read about what is allowed and what's not. It's a bit confusing because someone said that you can use kuberenetes.io/docs/reference but you cannot use templates created specifically to the exam.
so, just to make it clear - somebody working on the exam from CNCF/Linuxfoundation - could you confirm that with a simple yes or no answer the following:
- can I use kuberentes.io/docs no matter what I find there? Because it's full of "examples" or "templates" it just a matter of what you think about that.
- to make my question more specific can I read https://kubernetes.io/docs/concepts/policy/pod-security-policy/ during the exam for example?
- if the pages mentioned above am I only allowed to read kuberenetes.io/docs/reference?
- if I google for let's say: nginx kuberentes pod deployment, is that allowed?

- but it's not allowed to visit eg mail.mindinfo.hu/kube-examples/ and download pre-made yaml files?

I think these areas of the exam needs some clarification before some dropped out of the exam because of that.
The exam is long enough with enough questions that with even using the documentation you will not be able to answer all the questions if you don't have experience (or if you have a terrible hangover for example :) )

br, Agoston

Re: CKA Beta Request

Sam Tresler

I took the test last week. You will be required to have a webcam and there is a live proctor on chat with you. You'll need to hold your ID up to the webcam, as well as pan it around the room to show that you are in a private location without other electronics around you. So, I think that section is actually still relevant, but could be clarified that it happens via webcam not in person.

I got a reminder email today for my test in Thursday. And it has the following instructions.

The fact that you can take the test online makes the instruction regarding proctor and ID check irrelevant and confusing.

-Yogesh
-------

In addition to your user credentials, your appointment requires the following:

  • Candidates are required to provide a means of photo identification before the Exam can be launched. Acceptable forms of photo ID include current, non-expired: passport, government-issued driver's license/permit, national ID card, state or province-issued ID card, or other form of government issued identification. If acceptable proof of identification is not provided to the exam proctor prior to the exam, entry to the exam will be refused. Candidates who are refused entry due to lack of sufficient government issued ID will not be eligible for a refund or rescheduling. Please also note that the presented international Passport or government issued form of identification must contain Western (English) characters.

Start Your Exam on Time: To start your exam, login at https://www.examslocal.com/linuxfoundation, click "My Exams", and follow the instructions after selecting the exam that you want to start. You may start your exam up to 15 minutes before your scheduled start time. You MUST start your exam no later than 15 minutes after your scheduled start time. If you do not start your exam within 15 minutes of your scheduled start time, the system will automatically mark you as a No-Show and you will not be able to take your exam.

Hello Kubernetes Certification Working Group!

The CKA Beta is ongoing thru 8/31 and this note summarizes some of the
important details of the program. We have notified ALL usable email
addresses signed up to the CKA Beta Signup list. If you signed up to beta
test, but did not receive an email invitation with the Subject: ?CKA Beta
is Ready!? please contact us via this Kubernetes Certification Working
Group list with Subject: CKA Beta Request.

We?ll be choosing beta testers to highlight during our public launch in
mid-September. Be sure to take the test as soon as possible and no later
than 8/31 to be considered for a spotlight.

ABOUT THE CKA EXAM

Exam Details
* You can take the beta certification exam from any qualifying computer,
anywhere there is internet, almost any time. No need to go to a test
center. (see Hardware Compatibility Check below)
* The online exam consists of a set of 31 performance-based items
(problems) to be solved in a command line.
* The exam is expected to take 3-4 hours to complete.

Technical Instructions
* Before taking the CKA Beta exam, please review exam-specific technical
instructions, attached to this email: cka_exam.1.1.0.1
* The current CKA beta is being deployed using a modified Canonical
Distribution of Kubernetes.
* Hints will be provided to guide the beta tester through certain aspects
of the exam, where CDK may differ from a vanilla-K8s deployment.
* The clusters which comprise the exam environment are currently running
v1.6.2 of K8s components. We?ll skip v1.7 and move to v1.8 in November 2017.

Hardware Compatibility Check
* Candidates should run the compatibility check tool provided by the Exam
Proctoring Partner to verify that their hardware meets the minimum
requirements.
* The tool is located at
?Linux Foundation? as the Exam Sponsor and ?CKA? as the Exam.
* At this time, only Chrome and Chromium browsers are supported and
candidates need a functioning webcam so that the proctor can see them.

Rules during exam
* Candidates may browse the web for relevant technical (non exam-specific)
documentation, e.g., https://kubernetes.io/docs/reference/.
* Candidates may use the Notepad feature accessible in the top menu bar of
the exam console (notes entered here will not be retained or accessible
after the exam has ended)

Exam Results
* The beta process is being used to determine the passing score
* Please disregard the ?No Pass? email notice you will receive after
completing the beta
* Once the actual passing score is set, will receive your finalized score
and Pass/No Pass status, no later than Sept 1. 2017.

Re: CKA Beta Request

The CKA Candidate Handbook has a text commission -- in the Domains list,
Networking 11% should be listed. This will be corrected in the next update
cycle for the Handbook.

Application Lifecycle Management 8%
Installation, Configuration & Validation 12%
Core Concepts 19%
Networking 11%
Scheduling 5%
Security 12%
Cluster Maintenance 11%
Logging / Monitoring 5%
Storage 7%

Hi Team,

I have registered and scheduled the CKA exam, but it seems that some of the links from the "Exam Preparation Checklist" still haven't been updated.

Especially the "Get Candidate Handbook" and the "Important Tips" link is pointing to just a dummy "Coming Soon" page.

Could you please help us out and provide the updated link/material related to the same?

Specifically, we're going to say that it's fine to open other tabs and to do web searches. Searching documentation or error message text is OK. However, searching for 'CKA exam answers' would be cause for disqualification. That's what we mean by not exam-specific.

My apologies for the confusion, which we can hopefully fix immediately with updated instructions.

Folks have identified an area where we need to add clearer instructions.
